Instructions for Block #1 - September
Navy (Dark) – Cut 2 pieces 5” square
Light Blue (Light) – Cut 2 pieces 5” square
Light Blue (Light) – Cut 1 piece 5.5” square
Blue (Med) – Cut 1 piece 5.5” square
Yellow (Medium) Cut 2 pieces 5.5” square
Dark green (Med-Dark) – Cut 1 piece 4.5” square
1. Lay each navy piece on top of the lt. blue, right sides together. Draw a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite corner. Sew ¼” beside the line on both sides of the line. Cut the fabric down the drawn line. Press open with seam towards dark side. Proof to a 4.5” square. You now have 4 half square triangles.

2. Lay one yellow (5.5”) square on top of a Blue (medium) (5.5”) square and draw a diagonal line from one point to the opposite point. Then lay one yellow (5.5”) square on top of a light blue (5.5”) square. Draw a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite corner. Now sew a line ¼” on each side of the line for each piece. Cut in half along the line and press open with the seams going to the yellow. You will have 8 half square triangles; 2 light blue and yellow and 2 yellow and med. blue.

3. Now lay 1 light blue & yellow half square triangle over a med. Blue and yellow half square triangle. Lay the yellow of the yellow & light blue on top of the medium blue triangle. So, light blue against yellow, yellow against med. blue. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner and sew a ¼” seam on each side of the line. Cut on the line. Press open. Proof to a 4.5” square. You will now have 4 quarter square triangles.

4. To make the block sew a blue & light blue half square triangle to each side of the quarter square triangle. Do this two times. Press seams out. Then sew a quarter square triangle to each side of the green square. Press seams in. Look at pattern for exact placement of each square. Then sew row 1 to row 2 and add row 3. If you have pressed the seams correctly the seams for each row should “lock” together. You now have a block that is 12.5” X 12.5”.
