Instructions for Block #2 - October
Dark Blue - Cut 6 square 3" X 3"
Med. Blue - Cut 1 square 4.5"x4.5"
- Cut 4 squares 2.5"x2.5"
Light Blue - Cut 4 squares 2.5”x4.5”
- Cut 6 squares 3”x3”
Yellow - Cut 8 squares 2.5”x2.5”
Green - Cut 4 squares 2.5”x4.5”
1. Green & Yellow flying geese – On each green piece lay a yellow square on the corner and draw a diagonal line from the outside corner up to the inside corner. Sew on this line. Cut off ¼” next to this seam and discard the small triangles. Fold out & press the yellow triangle. Now lay the other yellow square on top of the other end of the green rectangle and draw a line from the outside corner to the inside center corner. Sew on this line, cut off the corner like last time and fold out the yellow triangle and press. You now have a 2.5”x4x5” flying geese unit. Make 4 in total.

2. Light blue & dark blue ½ square triangles. Take your 6 3”x3” light and dark blue squares and lay a dark blue on top of a light blue, right sides together. Draw a diagonal line from one corner to the other corner. Sew a ¼” seam on each side of the seam and rotary cut down the drawn line. Open each one up and press to the dark blue. Proof to 2.5".
3. You are now ready to put your block together. Looking at the diagram sew a ½ sq. tri. to another ½ sq. triangle. Do this 2X and it should look like this:
4. Now sew 2 more ½ sq. tri. together but facing the opposite direction. Do this 2X.
5. Sew these to a light blue 2.5”x4.5” rectangle. Do this 2X. Press seams out.
6. Sew ½ sq. triangle to the left of a 2.5” med. Blue square 2X and then to the right of a med. Blue square. Do this 2X as well.
7. Join a flying geese to the left side of the med. Blue square and add then add the other med. Blue and ½ sq. tri. unit to the right side of the flying geese unit. Do this 2X. Press seams in.
8. Now join the 4.5” light blue rectangle to the Flying geese unit. Do this 2X and then join each of these units to the med. Blue square. Press seams out.
9. Looking at the diagram of the finished block, join each unit to the next (there should be five units). Lock seams as you put it together. Do a final press.
